He has worked in the jazz world since graduating, starting out in big bands on the Mecca circuit, followed by fronting bands in clubs, and work as a session musician. He has made many recordings, and is particularly respected for his work as an accompanist and arranger, especially of the modern and standard song repertoire.
Stuart Phippen
After winning the Canon Jack Award for Piano in 1986, and completing his B.A.(Hons) at Colchester Institute, Stuart went on to study accompanying at Trinity College of Music, where he received the Alex Rowley prize. He then went on to develop a career as a professional pianist and accompanist, alongside a busy schedule of teaching.
His love and experience of a wide variety of musical genres (including the classics, jazz and popular music) has given Stuart a busy performing diary, in which he can be performing jazz / swing one night, and playing celeste in an orchestral concert the next. Aside from performing and teaching piano, he presently lectures at the Centre for Voice, working with students studying musical theatre.
Stuart is a member of the Incorporated Society of Musicians.
